Canning Apple Pie Filling
You will need :
4 1/2 cups white sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. salt
10 cups water
6 lbs. apples
7 quart jars/lids/rings
Mix sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Add salt and water.
Bring to a boil and cook until thick and bubbly.
Remove from heat and add lemon juice.
Peel, core, and slice apples.
(I placed them in water with some lemon juice to prevent browning.)
Pack jars with apples. Fill with syrup. Gently removing air bubbles with a butter knife or that bubble remover you get with your canning kit.
Process for 20 minutes in water bath.
Enjoy some good ol' apple pie this winter!
This syrup was awesome for dipping your apples in. You will have enough syrup left over at the end to have a very delicious snack!
