A newspaper illustration depicting a man engag...Image via Wikipedia

Recently I have found myself added to a group of Bemidji Area Bartering.  It's been interesting figuring out what bartering is all about.  I have recently committed to a barter.  I get 4 dozen quart jars with rings for the exchange of my fresh garden tomatoes. Sounds like the lady I made the deal with will be dropping the jars off at BK on Monday!  I will then keep her posted on my tomatoes.  What a deal!  They are even wide mouth, which is my favorite for making pickles!
Anyone else do some bartering or have a group in your area.  The Bemidji group is on facebook.  It is a closed group but someone in the group can add you easily.

{Update on my raspberries!}
I have to share the pictures.  The color from the berries is just wonderful!

~Sweet Raspberry Iced Tea~

4 quarts water
1 1/2 cups sugar
12 oz. of raspberries(frozen or fresh)
10 tea bags
1/4 cup lemon juice

Place water and sugar on stove and bring to a boil. Cook until sugar is dissolved.  Turn off heat.  Add tea bags, berries, and lemon juice, cover, and steep for 3 minutes.  Chill and serve with ice!  {It was refreshing!}

~Raspberry Sauce~

 2 pints of raspberries and 1/4 cup sugar(I added a bit more for my taste)
Combine in saucepan.

Cook until raspberries are broken down, about 10 minutes.
Add lemon juice.

I've been enjoying it with some ice cream and a little chocolate sauce, mmmmm!

Raspberry Vinaigrette
I used the recipe from a blueberry vinaigrette we made last summer.

1/2 c. Raspberries
1/4 c. vinegar
few tablespoons of oil
sugar to taste
salt to taste
chopped onion

If I remember right we found a base recipe off the Internet and Reenie feel free to tweak at your own taste!

Such a nice way to use local produce in a different way!

~Raspberry Creamsicles~

 The kids loved helping on this one!

So I pretty much just winged this recipe : )  Had my bowl of raspberries, added some cream, little sugar to taste and stirred it up.

And placed in my popsicle makers.

After barely freezing(cause that was just too long for some people here) it seemed to be a hit!

I did find this recipe for raspberry creamsicles....a "real" recipe.

My goal is to make a batch of jam today!

Upcycled Pans!

Check out this blog's post on Pan Flowers!  Here I just posted the {upcycled} plates Karla and Pat did.
Here's another take on the same idea.  Using old pans.

This summer for me is the summer of raspberries!

I have come onto quite the patch.

Lets see, we have ate the raspberries plain.  {YUMMY}

We had raspberries and cream.  {MMMMM}

I know {HEAVEN}!

Tomorrow I am going to try and make a batch of raspberry jam.

Some raspberry sauce for a different take on that homemade ice cream.

Anyone have anything else?

Repurposed OWLS

Alright I am a little late for the whole owl thing, but that's OK....I wasn't really into them.  But I saw these at a garage sale last weekend and for $1.50 for the two sets, I got into these.

2 sets of owls=$1.50
 I thought painted white to match my other hodge podge of decor they would be perfect!
So even if I am late on owls compared to the rest of the world, in MY world they are NEW!

Just wanted to throw in some more pictures of the makeover.  Clematis from my garden.
Closer view of the jewelery holder.  I forgot to pick up S hooks so I ended up using paperclips for some pieces.

Upcycled plates!

{Beautiful Garden Art by Patty and Karla}
Collection of plates from thrifting

Glue on different items to the plates, these glass rocks look nice or maybe a tea cup.

Stick on post and place in garden.
Gluing some pieces together.

I don't have a picture of one in the garden.  Does anyone else?  Email it to me if you can!

Fun finds this weekend!

The rug used as the backdrop was also a fine.  The lady said she collected the rags and sent them away to someone in Minnesota who made them into rugs.  Cool.

Blue glass jar's top is a music box.

The girls and I went to a poultry showing workshop.  Yes, you read that right a class that tought us how to show chickens.  Anyway they mentioned a few items that are handy to have on hand during the fair and a storage container was nice to store them in.  When we were out on our rummage hunts I had some sort of old tool box in mind.  This will be perfect!

Making corners of my world corner at a time.

My mom came up this week.  Know what that means?  Project time!  I am really awesome at coming up with projects to do(don't believe me?  ask Travis).  The hard part for me is executing them.  Not sure why...I could probably come up with six or seven good excuses though.
The project we worked on this week was a corner of my closet.  A few months ago I had come home, and was taking off my jewelery I had worn that day.  I was appalled at what my "jewelery" drawer had become.

**WARNING: You are about to see a VERY sad, horrific drawer!**

I feel so exposed.

This next photo shows the entrance to our closet.  The corner I decided should become pretty for my pretty things.

So I told my mom about this idea.  She started collecting stuff for it.  This week we finally got to work on it!

Just a few things she had found.  We just sprayed everything with white.

We were lucky to get this done at the beginning of the week before the HOT AND HUMIDITY came.

The closet has yet to be painted.  I have had more important things to do in the last five years than paint my closet, ok.  I picked a light blue.  The paint chip called it "cloudy blue".  I should mention here I love shabby chic cottage look.  So while shelves and mirrors dried we also painted.

(its still white here)

Awesome place to keep my jewelery sorted and display all the pretty stuff!

OK, how awesome is this little guy?!?  Found at goodwill by my mom.  {LOVE IT!}

 There you have it....we did all that along with LOTS of other things this week.  I really wasn't sure we'd pull it off.  I am happy we did.  I have a few little pieces I need to add yet, but the main project is done.
What to do next..........
